Standing majestically at 1,947 meters above sea level, Hallasan Mountain is South Korea's highest peak and the centerpiece of Jeju Island. This magnificent shield volcano, whose name means "mountain that can pull down the Milky Way," offers some of the most spectacular hiking experiences in East Asia.
Designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site, Hallasan National Park spans 153 square kilometers and contains over 1,800 plant species and 4,000 animal species. The mountain features diverse ecosystems ranging from subtropical forests at its base to alpine vegetation near the summit.
